Charity ALWAYS starts at Home

At Ambiton, we believe in making a difference, not only to our clients, but also to our staff and the community.

Making the difference

In December 2019, Ambiton and our Staff combined their efforts in support of Abigail Baard (one of our support staff) and her 12 year old son Lithemba.

Abby joined The Ambiton Family in 2017 and has been one of our treasured staff members ever since. She has a 12 year old son, Lithemba who was diagnosed with Cerebral palsy at birth. Over the past 2 years, his condition deteriorated immensely.

Lithemba:

Lithemba is a bright and clever young man who speaks Xhosa and English fluently. From birth until the tender age of just 10 years old, Lithemba was able to stand up straight with the use of a frame. Over time, the muscles in his legs became tighter and tighter and soon he was not able to stand up straight or even attend school. As a result he became bed ridden, and his dislocated hips caused extreme pain on a daily basis.

Lithemba was in desperate need of surgery, but unfortunately they did not have medical aid or funds available to perform the operation. The surgery would provide him with the much needed relief in his legs and improve his quality of life.

It would also enable him to sit in a wheel chair and have some form of mobility, if not, it would mean that he would suffer more abnormalities, becoming completely isolated and running the risk of developing further deformities in his spine. This would mean that he will never be able to interact with others, isolating and depriving him from the world and opportunities to meet and experience activities which is normal for children of his age .

Lithemba's surgery:

At the end of December 2019,  Ambiton and all the staff made a commitment to help Abby and Lithemba by raising funds towards his surgery. Needless to say, Ambiton and our staff contributed collectively, in addition to donor funds, for this much needed  surgery. On 29 February 2020 Lithemba went for his surgery and is recovering at home. Today he even has a smile on his face, although it will be a long road to recovery there is hope for a better future. At Ambiton we believe where there is hope, there is faith, and where there is faith, miracles happen.

The amount collected and donated to Abby allowed her to stay home with Lithemba for the month of March to facilitate his recovery. Both Abby and Lithemba are doing very well and the positiveness, appreciation and determination they demonstrated during this time reminded us of the many blessings we take for granted every day.

We are very proud to be a part of Abby and Lithemba’s journey and will keep you updated with his progress. Thank you to each and every donor and staff member of Ambiton for their contribution and support.
